The Queer Theory Reading Group at Tulane University seeks to promote a supportive and mutual learning community for students interested in queer theory. We engage in monthly scholarly discussions focused on canonical and contemporary works in queer theory. Readings are selected by doctoral student Ryan Joyce (Dept. of French and Italian), in collaboration with group members, to offer both new and established scholars in queer theory a focused point for discussion. While each meeting will vary in theme and content, the overall project of the group is to interrogate the term ‘queer’ along with its potential applications to contemporary and historical issues relating to race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, labor, representation, violence, politics, and subjectivity. Although hosted at Tulane University, all students and scholars are welcome; no prior knowledge of queer theory is required.
